THIS WEEK : SONS BETWEEN GUNS
Sons Between Guns are a duo from South East London making electronica with a tinge of folk & a splash of indie. To be honest its hard to pin them down to any particular genre and its all the better for that imho. This is music for the soul with sounds for the heart thrown in for good measure.
In reviewing that week’s tracks I described it as having “the restrained elegance of atmospheric folk music inside a magical tinderbox…. to me this is their best work to date – and a sure sign of more good things to come”.
The future has a golden glow for Sons Between Guns if songwriting as promising as ‘The Other Side’ is anything to go by. I fully expect to hear them coming out of radio’s this spring/summer & beyond. Oh, and they were born in a Beach Hut apparently. This is Prick and Ding 39 and here are Son Between Guns.
1. What are you up to at the moment?
Paul – We are just working on our music videos for our forthcoming Yellow 2 E.P.
Tom – It’ll be good to have some visual accompaniment to the tracks. We’re also working on new material for releases further on down the line.
2. Favourite childhood memory?
Paul – Me on a bmx track racing my diamond back as fast as I could.
Tom – Learning my first song on a guitar. Paint it Black.
Paul – Anyone who can get loaded at the weekend and hold down a demanding job.
Tom – People who stand up to litterers.
Paul – People who talk the talk but cant walk the walk.
Tom – Litterers.
5. What/who makes you laugh?
Paul – I’m a big kid at heart. I enjoy a good wind up with people and being silly.
Tom – I like the long drawn out stories people tell when they’re half cut.
6. Describe what you do?
Paul – Drift into another place and write timeless music with soul.
Tom – I have to agree with Paul on that one. I like our approach to songwriting.
7. Whose hair would you like to have for just one day?
Paul – Kevin Keegan in the 70s with his big perm.
Tom – I think he’d have mine really. If was just for one day…Dot Cottons. I’d have the eyebrows too.
8. Best musical experience to date
Paul – Getting 3 songs out of 4 played on 6 Music from our first E.P.
Tom – That was great. It’s a new thing for the both of us and it’s something we really put our hearts into it.

Paul – Crosby Stills and Nash, David Bowie, Portishead and LTJ Bukem and loads more.

Paul – A breath of fresh air.
Tom – I can’t top that.
