THIS WEEK:THE PAPER SHADES
The Paper Shades are a Folk duo comprised of Sarah Dollar and Jon Rixon from Southern England.
They deliver blissful understated harmonies & gentle guitar refrains that dance in & out of subtle rhythms and ‘Light of the Day ‘will have you swaying, dreaming & toe tapping all in one full swoop.
Sarah & Jon grew up in the countryside of southern England and met whilst studying at art college discovering a shared taste and love for music. The pair started writing and performing in the Autumn of 2010 and released their first self-titled EP in 2011. They continued to write and gig as much as possible releasing a second EP titled ‘Where You Lay’ in August 2012 gaining airplay on Tom Robinson’s 6 Music show, BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio.
They released their free single ‘The Storm’ in January which is available from their website and they also have a new single called ‘Wild & Free’ which will be released through iTunes this month.
I think ‘Light of the day’ sounds like a lead track in its own right, the feel of this track suggest much goodness in the future for The Paper Shades.
They also have a new single called ‘Wild & Free’ which will be released through iTunes this month.
Say hello to The Paper Shades.
1. What are you up to at the moment?
Preparing for our single release in a couple of weeks, the track’s called Wild & Free.
2. Favourite childhood memory?
Jon – Probably summer holidays spent in the woods building camps and generally messing about. Sarah – Long summer evenings with my friends long boarding around the village (stopping at the shops for sweets!)
Sarah – My grandad Jon – Anyone who tries to do what they love for a living even if that’s not the easy option.
Black Eyed Peas…….. but they have got that boom boom pow!
5. What/who makes you laugh?
Apart from each other? Peoples funny little idiosyncrasies (just had to look up on Google how to spell that)
6. Describe what you do?
We try to write what comes naturally. We try to focus on the details particularly with intertwining guitar lines and it’s important for us to convey emotion through melody and dynamics.
7. Who’s hair would you like to have for just one day?
Jon – Anyone who has curly hair (I do not) Sarah – Afro?…….pops down to joke shop.
8. Best musical experience to date?
Probably having our last EP finished and in our hands. We designed the artwork and made up the packaging ourselves so it was a long process but satisfying.
9. What artist inspires you?
Different people for different reasons. At the moment The Staves as they seem to be out there having fun but are also immensely talented.
10. What does Fresh On The Net mean to you?
To us Fresh On The Net has meant getting feedback from people who hadn’t previously heard us and who have a broad appreciation for music. Thank you!
