No Upload = No Airplay

BBC Introducing Uploader

Folks, BBC Introducing is a free service designed to help emerging UK artists get heard. But we at the BBC can’t help you unless you help us too – by actually sending us your music via bbc.co.uk/music/introducing/uploader

Between 150-200 tracks arrive in our Soundcloud dropbox here at Fresh On The Net each Mon – Thur and our entire moderation team, including me, listens to every one of them. We then pick our 25 favourites to be included on that week’s Listening Post.

At the same time I also make a note of any tunes suitable for my BBC Introducing Mixtape. As the name suggests, all music on the Mixtape is sourced from the BBC Introducing Uploader. So unless your latest song has been shared there as well, we aren’t allowed to feature it on a BBC Introducing show. The Beeb’s rules are very specific: no upload = no airplay.

Sometimes of course those outstanding tracks are by non-UK residents*, but more often they’re by British artists who simply didn’t read the instructions. So here are 10 excellent tunes from this week’s inbox that alas won’t be featured on my 6 Music Mixtape – or any other BBC Introducing shows – anytime soon…

NB *Overseas artists can’t upload to BBC Introducing without giving a valid UK postcode. Some non-British acts get around this by asking their local record label, agent, publisher or even a fan to upload music on their behalf. Fresh On The Net doesn’t condone overseas artists disregarding BBC rules, but there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Despite our best efforts, some of them have been known to end up getting played on the BBC Introducing Mixtape
