  1. :)!

ANT THOMAZ- There’s No Black Or White People
    K.O.G & THE ZONGO BRIGADE – Rain
THE BIRDMAN RALLIES — Sungold Shelters
WE WERE STRANGERS – In The Inbetween
    WREKIT88 – Yamato Superstar

My fave of this bunch: ANT THOMAZ – There’s No Black Or White People … for the poetry. On the first sight the title seems to serve a clichée, but it does not at all … the lyrics following coutd stand alone as contemporary, expressive poetry. Some seconds of listening (and reading, as the artist had the kindness to offer the lyrics to read while listening), and the wording catches your mind – no need for catchy arrangement or vocals, but, besides … the vocals’s vibes match the message of the poem underneath.

K.O.G & THE ZONGO BRIGADE – Rain – evokes my 2 years as German volunteer in Ghana’s Northern Region. There’s a solid influence of the zimpa-drums i heard the young people playing through warm, cicada-ruled nights
and the highlife of the southern townboys.

WREKIT88 – Yamato Superstar – I appreciate the idea of Wrekit88 to offer cooperation to male and female singers to create new sounds and/or improve ideas they forwarded earlier. In this case we find a well-conceived farewell to a late friend of the artists, partly based on a poem of Dylan Thomas and they convinced Van Wyck to do the vocals, a woman artist from Amsterdam, Netherlands, who herself is a brilliant songstress and outstanding songwriter.

Again, this last listening (of this year) to 120 tracks and a lot of christmas-songs left me impressed and somehow exhausted by the variety of genres and spirit of arts of each of the artist who confided (their work) in our listening. FOTN is blessed that an equaly diverse bunch of moderators brings themselves to do this listening and thus grant a reasonable and representative Listening-Post to FOTN’s reader/listeners.

So I chose 5 songs I would want to take with me in a car and listen to with different people more times than one. A shared first, and a shared second. Love the voice on quiet baby – want more of it! Love the vibe of Jon Parks, how it’s happy and not at the same time and the ‘guns in the grass’ lyric
Really enjoyed the melodic diversity of the birdmen and the soft heavy blanket sound of we were strangers. Also really like the breezy melancholy of Gizmo.
