Chris Chadwick

Student, Musician, Writer and Student Radio enthusiast. I’ve always been interested in new music, always secretly hoping that one day I’d make one of the lists that litter the media every year as one of their “hotly tipped acts”. More recently my interest has shifted to supporting other unsigned artists.

In 2009 I started University in Liverpool, studying History and Popular Music. One of my first moves was to join the student radio station, presenting a new music show during my first and second year. Around the same time, I joined the hoards of people pouring their souls onto the world wide web and began blogging about the music I was playing. More recently that blog has become more personal and explores every aspect of my music related life from festival experiences and reviews to new bands, music industry debates and my experiences of trying to carve a career in Radio. You can check out my occasional musings at Since then I’ve become more involved in student radio, leading a team of reviewers who write from, writing about new music, local talent and student experience.

Student Radio has gifted me with so many fantastic opportunities and I’ve met and interviewed some fantastic people along the way. My personal highlight was a cold December day in 2010 when I interviewed Chiddy Bang, Tinie Tempah and Nick Grimshaw all in one day. Nick Grimshaw in particular was a great interviewee considering that not 5 years prior to our meeting he’d been Head of Music for LSRadio, the position which I still hold today.

In June 2011 I spent a month working for Tom’s BBC Introducing Show on 6Music and quickly realised that it was my dream job. Supporting great new artists with airplay and advice, each day brought a new discovery, a new favourite band. Since then I’ve continued my relationship with the show, regularly recommending bands from Liverpool that have potential to make one of those holy ‘hot new artist lists’.

It’s an honour to be able to write for FreshOnTheNet. I’m really excited to get stuck in and help unsigned artists get some press and recognition in whatever small way I can.
