  32. Poppy

(Note: “London’s Requiem” was only available as a preview to me, so please feel free to disqualify my vote if this makes it unfair.)

This week, my attention’s been grabbed by a couple of rewarding slow-burners in the form of “Cremola Flux” and “Oneohone”, the prehistoric production and strong social message of “Pangaea”, the imagination-tickling chopped-up vocals and hooks of “All Of That Movement”, and the perfectly-played-straight “Don’t Make Me Wait Too Long”, which proves musicianship and narked-off humour can live side by side perfectly. Have a good weekend, all!

    FLVZ – Pangaea
HOLY ROMAN – All Of That Movement
JIM – Don’t Make Me Wait Too Long
    PARTICLE DRIFT – Cremola Flux
    VELDHANS – Oneohone

ahh my computer jumped, so above were my 5 faves. Very honoured to be put up amongst such musical variety and talent. it was a joy to delve into the different styles, genres and to see what awesome creativity we have coming out right now.

  39. Hello, Peeps!

    Shout outs for…
RAAD – Where My Ears Where My Eyes At

    Quality tunage from the Inbox.

JIM – Don’t Make Me Wait Too Long
    KATZ WITH A K – Wine Cave
    LUCAS – Past Present Future
POSABLE ACTION FIGURES – Danger Kill (featuring Honeyblood)

    Quickie Blurb:
    DENNEY – Who We Are
    – Graceful vocal melodies adrift across the dull, fragility of forgotten piano keys.

JIM – Don’t Make Me Wait Too Long
    – a simple everyman’s story told very well. It’s funky because it’s true (my pick of the week)

    KATZ WITH A K – Wine Cave
    – lo-fi slides & grinds, hung low dirty beats groove with nasty rhymes

    LUCAS – Past Present Future
    – Blunt, atonal, synth-sonics stab & surge as beats scattershot; percussive panic

POSABLE ACTION FIGURES – Danger Kill (featuring Honeyblood)
    – Distortion driven & cranked, massive & awesome; vocals shout from the room, as cymbals fizz & drum skins spit. Spank your ears with it, kiddies.

    Roll. On. Next. Week.

    Tobi.

  40. the fresh sounds seem to be shifting in tone this week, perhaps with the season, and if they are a turning tree, then here is my autumn fruit from amongst those leaves

    CATHY JAIN – Green Screen
    DENNEY – Who We Are
    MAJA LENA – Avalanche
THE GREEDY BEAT SYNDICATE – People Gotta Change

  41. BLUE HOUR – Run Before You Crawl
    DENNEY – Who We Are
    FLVZ – Pangaea
    LOUIS DUNFORD – London’s Requiem
    MAJA LENA – Avalanche

Blue Hour – The group I wanted to be heared by the voting lot of FOTN’s Listening-Post. Just the young talents who deserve to be supported. To reach out for more – tracks, courage, creativity – go for it! πŸ™‚

  42. Missed these two bands making it to the Listening-Post – can be heared with the full Batch 386 https://soundcloud.com/freshnet/sets/inbox386

CORAL SNAKE – Pierce the heart – #194
    CRUSHED BY WAVES – Ceiling – #185

  43. Right, so this is without doubt the toughest LP batch I’ve had to choose between. Astonishing selection of tracks but after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, this is my shortlist:

AKS – Up & Up (Heavens Above)
Smooth electro-lounge hip hop. Beautifully textured and structured and incredibly original.

    CATHY JAIN – Green Screen
Laid-back, smooth vocal. Musically, it takes you on journeys you do not expect. Inventive, experimental. The Flaming Lips meets Martina Ropley-Bird.

    FLVZ – Pangaea
Bass heavy rap with Afro/Latin vibes. Some lovely musical tics and quirks. It builds and builds. It’s epic.

    KATZ WITH A K – Wine Cave
Some serious doom rap, here. Ominous beats with dark lyrics. Touches of Plan B and Tyler The Creator. Utterly compelling.

    LUCAS – Past Present Future
Pounding techno future jungle with an incredible glitchy groove. Head noddingly good.

    Special mentions also to:
    Eleri Angharad;
    Florie Namir;
    Blue Hour;
    Jim;
    Particle Drift.

As I say, such tough competition!

  44. Hodges

    CATHY JAIN – Green Screen
    GULLY – What’s New?
HOLY ROMAN – All Of That Movement
    VSTRS-3 – Laughing Like A Child Again
    WASUREMONO – Big Big Smiles

  45. CATHY JAIN – Green Screen
Great blend of layers and the vocal production is top notch. Sounds modern but classic

    FLVZ – Pangaea
The intro got me hooked and the rhythms of the rap and beat are fab. Love the mixture and blend of musical cultures. I’ll be dancing to this.

    KATZ WITH A K – Wine Cave
Gritty, honest, and direct. Gave me vibes of early Nas & cypress hill. Great sample and beat.

    PARTICLE DRIFT – Cremola Flux
I love the vibe of this tune and the balance of space and synth elements. The way the build up creeps up is fab. I can chill or dance to it.

THE GREEDY BEAT SYNDICATE – People Gotta Change
Love the message and the singers vocal. Also loved how I wasn’t sure if it was a funk, indie or r&b song. Love the fusion!

    YSTYR – Teimlad Hydrefol

Sometimes something as simple as a love for songs with whistling in can make or break a track when there are so many in the 25 I could’ve picked!

    FLORIE NAMIR – Mornings
    FLVZ – Pangaea
HOLY ROMAN – All Of That Movement
    VELDHANS – Oneohone
    YSTYR – Teimlad Hydrefol

  57. Here’s my top 5 this week:

BARRY LOCKE – Red Rivers. I loved this folk-inspired, rich, dramatic track.

FLVZ – Pangaea. Clever concept – that single prehistoric continent ( before it all drifted apart ) as a thematic launchpad concerning nationalistic, geographic boundaries. A plea for human universality expressed in a fascinating sonic space.

PARTICLE DRIFT – Cremola Flux. Beautifully crystalline sound-study. I imagine this might be part of a wider work.

THE GREEDY BEAT SYNDICATE – People Gotta Change. Superb funk,nu-disco track coming at the genres from a sideways direction.

WASUREMONO – Big Big Smiles. This track flourishes and blooms in a peculiarly epic way, like Bananarama reincarnated into a new magnitude. Certainly gave me a Big Big smile!
