PRICK & DING #9:POLARSETS

Each week Fresh On The Net invites an artist or band to answer a short series of questions in Prick & Ding: the two and a half minute interview. It's convenient and quick - like enjoying a tasty microwave meal!

This week:POLARSETS
Polarsets
are a three-piece from Whitley Bay making blissful indie dance music with a summer vibe at its core. Friends from school, Polarsets are Rob (vocals/guitar), Mike (keys) and James (drums) who make sweet music that could easily save you the expense of forking out on a summer break.

Tropics by Polarsets

Just pop on any of their songs on the iPod and you are instantly whisked away to sunny climes – relaxed, refreshed and ready to take on a new challenge. Shorts, sunglasses & sun cream are optional – though flip flops are not. Flip flops are the work of the devil: stay away from them, kids – even if you are in Ibiza. Their current EP ‘Exotica’ has just been digitally release through Euphonios Records and – put simply – it is bloody good. We suggest you give it a try & let your mind, body & soul be transported.

Polarsets

Our own Tom R has already featured this fine band on his excellent BBC 6 Music show and word is spreading out fast just how good these boys are. What I really enjoy when listening to Polarsets is their great use of melody & rthymn in tandem: nothing is wasted, nothing is overcooked. Great voices, great sounds & fine production = a very warm music that just works, and not only at one time of day, on one kind of dance floor or in one kind of mood. We at Fresh On The Net say YES to Polarsets….what say you?

If you get a chance to see them live then do – my guess is that it will be blissed out loveliness (Live date info). Find more on their Facebook & Soundcloud.

1. What are you up to at the moment?
Today (18th June) we are celebrating as our first EP entitled ‘Exotica’ is now available to buy. We are very proud of it and the lead track from it ‘Tropics’ has already been played by Tom on your show.

2. Favourite childhood memory?
Our collective memory is terrible. I think once we created House music when we were really little.

3. Hero?
Nacho Libre. We can’t recommend that film enough. Almost every time we practice someone drops a quote from it.

4. Villain?
Ramses

5. What/who makes you laugh?
Our lives.

6. Describe what you do?
We travel, write, play and party. Right now we’re writing and recording demos working towards an album. We’re getting there slowly… hopefully we’ll be in the studio to record it very soon.

7. Who’s hair would you like to have for just one day?
Mike Stipe

8. Best musical experience to date
Playing in Colombia. We have the best fans over there and we miss them as soon as we leave.

9. What artist inspires you?
T.E.E.D, Friendly Fires, St Lucia, Martin Denny. These guys have it going on.

10. What does Fresh On The Net mean to you?
Fresh On The Net was one of the first radio shows to ever pick up on us. We travelled overnight on the Megabus to do an interview with Tom once. Most important radio show on the air!
