Eclectic Picks: Batch 476

Every week Signal Committee present an Eclectic Picks playlist. All tracks are selected from the full inbox of 200 tracks that are submitted each week to Fresh On The Net. This week all the credit goes to our special guest curator, Pulses.

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

Our playlists are orientated to the alternative music fan. Lyrics are not essential, abstract ideas are embraced and the fusing of different genres is encouraged. If you used to write band names on your pencil case at school, you’ll probably like our playlists.

INTRODUCING PULSES

A Lone Wolf that we discovered in the early days of 2020, loving tracks such as Magma Rockstar which showcase his blend of electronica and real instruments. More recently, Pulses collaborated with the mighty Michael Donoghue for their album, Infant. It’s been a long time since Nottingham did anything, probably since Brian Clough circa 1980, but finally they have come good on the music scene. Check out his picks below, listen to the his own work…. and be happy!

A FEW WORDS FROM PULSES

Another crack at the Freshnet playlist! I once again retreated to my mountaintop hideaway to commune with the musical spirits and choose the finest, grooviest and weirdest tracks from this weeks inbox. After overcoming the apparent initial impossibility of choosing from such fine musical fare, the spirits and I agreed on the following ten tracks that will only improve your week.

The Future is Rave – Go Volta: Award for the track that put the biggest smile on face this week.

Ad Nauseam- Blueski: – Daniel Avery in a peyote trance

So far away – Faint Line: Irresistible melody sung by an undeniable voice.

Patacake – Will Farr Samples of ‘Pata Pata’? Funky rave groove? Take my money!

Dear Future Me – Sonnetist: Tough as the callouses on my heels.

Night is My Kingdom – The Curb Rats: Like licking a Soho bar at 4 in the morning. In a good way.

Another Kind Of Process – Malfucktion: Our robot overlords have overtaken Berlin and produced better music than their puny human slaves. Long live the techno barons!

I’m The Ogre – The Rodians: Glorious 7+ minutes of psych-rock wig out. Made for teatime at Glastonbury.

Handover – Henry: Likely Christopher Nolan just found the theme music to his next film. Shivered my spine straight onto the carpet.

Cyber Threatening – Wilcen: Threatens to be good and delivers.

RADIO OPPORTUNITIES

We all have ambitions to get on national radio, but in the meantime there are loads of great, independent radio stations that are always looking for new music of the alternative variety. They offer no promises, but the following hosts tell me they that, if you made this list, they’d like you to get in touch to be considered for their show:

  • Lucas Gil, presenter of Supernova on Glitterbeam Radio (Twitter @lucasgil, apply by his website here)
  • Joe Figueira of North Manchester FM (Twitter @moretonguy, apply with MP3, short bio & twitter handle by e-mail to joefigueira@yahoo.co.uk)
