Bill Greenhead is good people!
Bill is an animator, illustrator and video maker based in Maidstone.
He’s talented,he’s super creative and full of idea’s,he’s kind to children and small animals,he’s funny,he’s real good at drawing and animation and he totally gets the concept of a caring & sharing creative online community.
I’ve been meaning to write about him for ages because I think he’s ace and I love the things he creates but to be frank I’ve failed terribly (up until now) as life has been full to brimming but here I am back with intermittent Prick and Ding service and hope you are all warm ‘n toasty ‘n well ‘n happy ‘n that.
I was introduced to Bill by the lovely Tom Robinson,Tom has championed my musical output as Snippet on BBC 6 Music for many years so alongside really valuing his support I also really trust his opinion and the advice he has kindly given me. You see I had contacted Tom to see if he could recommend someone to help with the making of a video for the lead track of my last Snippet EP – We Luv The Sunshine from The Sunshine EP on Folkwit Records which at the time was crying out for a cracking summer video with a difference.
Without a moments hesitation Tom said I should make a video with someone seriously good and that I should really check out Bill’s amazing video for Free Swim’s Transatlantic Tumnus as Bill would be perfect for Snippet.
I was blown away by Bill’s work and got in touch with him straight away to see if he would interested in working with me.I was SO pleased when he said he was well up for it,liked the song and was already cooking up character ideas-chuffed I was.Bill has an impressive list of clients and am proud he worked on my video-big thanks Bill.
The internet and its power wins again but behind it all are good people like Bill.Have a gander at the video below and see what you think of this man’s work.
Do go and search Bill out online as he has an array of work that deserves your time and your love.
1. What are you up to at the moment?
Animating a whiteboard for an American Client. Doing some illustrations for childrens books and I’m working on a project for the Bank of England.
2. Favourite childhood memory?
Probably getting a box of discarded Marvel comics from my dads work friend. They blew my tiny mind.
3. Hero?
George Lucas. Stan Lee and probably Jack Kirby.
4. Villain?
Closed minded art hating bigots. People who complain and do nothing.
5. What/who makes you laugh?
Silliness. People like Charlie Brooker, David Mitchell, Monty Python, Mad magazine in the 50’s-60’s. Tex Avery cartoons. Airplane-Zucker bros in the late 70’s and 80’s.
6. Describe what you do?
Oh, I play about with concepts that bend logic for fun. I communicate using pictures. I animate ,write and draw. I like to make people laugh and sometimes think.
7. Who’s hair would you like to have for just one day?
Harry Hill
8. Best video/animation experience to date?
I know this sounds a bit bum crawly, but, I did enjoy getting the footage together for “We Luv the Sunshine” I needed to get a road sequence. First I tried bolting a camera to my car and driving round country lanes. But it was too high. So I removed the seat from my bike and mounted the camera on that facing backwards. Then rode around my village for a few hours. My son came with me. It was lovely.
9. What artist inspires you?
Great thinking and art. Films where people go against the norm and express themselves. Just small moments that bring joy and not taking yourself too seriously. Listening alot to Kasabian and Alt-J at the moment. They help keep my energy levels high when I work.
10. What does Fresh On The Net mean to you?
It punches a hole built by corporate industry to hear great new and old artists and their music. There’s a big world of music out there and this gives us more freedom to experience it for ourselves without these machines telling us what to pipe in our earholes.
Great words, videos, and hairstyle preference, if only for a day.
Cheers Jim,our lovely interviewee’s always like to bring us the latest hairstyle tips-its a public service that puts hairs on your chest(if not your head)
