Every week Signal Committee present an Eclectic Picks playlist. All tracks are selected from the full inbox of 200 tracks that are submitted each week to Fresh On The Net. This week all the credit goes to our special guest curator, St3v3L33.
WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?
Our playlists are orientated to the alternative music fan. Lyrics are not essential, abstract ideas are embraced and the fusing of different genres is encouraged. If you used to write band names on your pencil case at school, you’ll probably like our playlists.
INTRODUCING St3v3L33
St3v3L33 has been slipping into the Eclectic Picks sporadically for some time now, and it seems inevitable that every track he submits will feature. Quality over quantity.
Saxophone is his forte, but he obviously got bored playing Coltrane and Bleeding Gums Murphy at some point, and spiralled off to the dark side. Psychedelic, alternative, abstract – my favourite words all in one place.
His latest Soundcloud release is Swarm, be sure to check it out. Why? Well its always nice to be picked, but if the curator were Harry Styles you’d probably die a little inside. But when you realise the curator is cut from the same cloth, you may just find a new soulmate.

A FEW WORDS FROM STEVE PECK
PARTICLE DRIFT – Freak Telemetry: By 2 1/2 minutes you are completely captivated for the next 5 or so minutes and swept away into an alternate dimension, where time probably doesn’t matter.
THE FUCHSIAS – Blackbird: This is some fabulous rich melty music that builds into something much more urgent. Its a very thoughtful and imaginative arrangement.
MINIBODZ – Night Music: Love this combination of ethereal synths with the dirty bass. Just as it lulls you into that happy place, the bass gets really compulsive and turns the thing on it’s head.
WILL FARR – Doddy Oddlegs: Understated, but something very hypnotic about this beat. It hits the musical pleasure centres and gets right into your body. Some part of you just has to start moving with the beat.
SORRDES – I can hear my Angel Breathing: Has a bright happy engaging melody without trying to hard, that is carefully wrapped up in some deep kick bass. Its a welcome trip around a lovely garden of sound.
BANGERLORE – Delikatesse: The sub bass and kick beat keeps it’s feet on solid ground while the experimental synth sweeps and bleeps filling the room around it. 6 minutes of goodness.
GO VOLTA – Computerised: Big hard synth stabs and an angry bass come at you with attitude. When the rap hits, it fits in like another angry synth,. Just turn it up and dive in.
LOST SIGNAL – Imaginary Travels: Experimental, inventive and imaginative use of sound. All of it pleasing to the touch. Not sure why, but it brings to mind waterfalls and deep plunge pools. Says more about me I guess.
MATTERS – Midnight Zone: Tense expectant start. Smart minimal guitar FX. It’s a long track, so the slow build is delicious and savoured before it really gets into it’s stride and starts blasting away at your senses..
ALIEN ALARMS – An Endless Android Dream: Weird and quirky stuff I love. Another track that I felt was just hypnotic. But this time with off beats and the strange female android breakdown.
BULKIER NOONS – Diamonds F’d Up: A track that is messed up in all the good ways. Eclectic Chaos with a great beat.
DROWNING BY NUMBERS – Fucnk: Etherial harp like qualities and a rolling beat. Tranquil, smooth and interesting. Keeps you engaged
TERRY NAYLOR – Back from the Brink: Jazzy smooth Sunday afternoon music that couldn’t fail to pick you up on the dullest of days. And you’ll forget it’s raining outside. Done to perfection.
CUTTY – Equals: Sneaky false start catches you off guard. And then your drawn into lyrical moodiness with a haunting echo and an edgy minimal plink plonk of the keyboard with whip crack beat.
FLANGE CIRCUS – Diabolical Bird: More angry sawtooth synths (and the flange of course) to wake you up.
MAJOR DERANGES – Leblon [feat. MC Buzz B] (Radio Edit): I don’t really know how to describe this. Its simply an enchanting assault of your senses. Maybe I’ve had an overload of music this week, but this one speaks to my soul.
CAPTAL – New Road: A bit of a quirky electronic music and fuzz guitar mash up that buries itself under your skin. Reminiscent of how I felt listening to old Gary Newman in his Tubeway Army days.
SILVERLAKE – Jim Rockford Smiles: A fabulous Funk freakout. All the best stuff from De La Soul distilled into 5 minutes of joy.

RADIO OPPORTUNITIES
We all have ambitions to get on national radio, but in the meantime there are loads of great, independent radio stations that are always looking for new music of the alternative variety. They offer no promises, but the following hosts tell me they that, if you made this list, they’d like you to get in touch to be considered for their show:
- Lucas Gil, presenter of Supernova on Glitterbeam Radio (Twitter @lucasgil, apply by his website here)
- Joe Figueira of North Manchester FM (Twitter @moretonguy, apply with MP3, short bio & twitter handle by e-mail to joefigueira@yahoo.co.uk)

Eclectic indeed! What a great selection of tunes. Morning walk never felt more bouncy. Thanks St3v3L33.

Thank you so much for including New Road in this list. As you know, it means the world to us. Thank you x
