Eclectic Picks: Batch 481

Every week Signal Committee present an Eclectic Picks playlist. All tracks are selected from the full inbox of 200 tracks that are submitted each week to Fresh On The Net. This week all the credit goes to our special guest curator, Six Four Zero Two.

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

Our playlists are orientated to the alternative music fan. Lyrics are not essential, abstract ideas are embraced and the fusing of different genres is encouraged. If you used to write band names on your pencil case at school, you’ll probably like our playlists.

INTRODUCING SIX FOUR ZERO TWO

Six Four Zero Two knows how to make the Eclectic Picks. Blending inspiration from a variety of sources is exactly what we preach here and so it is fitting that when trawling through his back catalogue you can feel tones of Warpaint in One Brave Voice, Interpol in Sun Is Moon only to then find yourself in in a Berlin nightclub with Fresh Fave, On Your Skin. Dig deeper and you might find ambient, post punk and alt rock all part of his repertoire.

For those that like a good ‘backstory episode’, 6402 was part of his call sign in the RAF – where no doubt he was ‘in the rear, with the gear’. Now listen to his picks this weeks!

A FEW WORDS FROM SIX FOUR ZERO TWO

Person – Sliver

So tight. I love that voice, and in fact, every sonic detail of this track. Catchy, immediate and masterfully mucky.

Apteekii – The Imposter

The doubled-up lead vocals, that great bridge and those majestic building synth sounds – a track that keeps giving, to the very last beat.

The Silent North – I made you a tape

Put on your headphones and wherever you are, this track will transport you somewhere ‘other’. Cave deep and astrally atmospheric.

Eyesore & the Jinx – An Ideas Man

Pure Post-Punk. Machine like, choppy and angular. Love it.

I Like It – Casual Drag

“Welcome to hell” indeed. Jeffrey Lee Pierce is waiting at the burning gates to congratulate you on this one. Superb.

Ben P Williams – Under The Radar

Timeless perfection.

Blueski – Flower In Theory

Delicate and atmospheric. Reminiscent of ‘The Unforgettable Fire’, which in my view is a very fine thing.

Maria Uzor – Cockstrutter

A fantastic, edgy track. Vocals with attitude. ‘Morse Code’ as percussion throughout.

Keep following that black star Maria.

Caitlin LM – Evergreen

That piano – from the first second, you’re in. Clever, confident instrumentation. Delicate echoes of Thom Yorke. I’m a sucker for a ‘Happy sad’ song. Gorgeous.

the picks certainly lived up to its name this week. Loved that Apteekii track particularly. And the Caitlin LM track of course, which more than deserved to be a fave this week.
