Eclectic Mix #3

Behold, I bring a gift—in Eclectic Mix form. I hope you don’t already have it, as I’ve lost the receipt and have already listened to it several times. You can listen to it here

This is Volume 3 of my Eclectic Mix project, scheduled to coincide with the Fresh on the Net winter break. These mixes are filled with music I love from artists who submit to our glorious FOTN. Some of the tracks have been featured in our Eclectic Picks playlists, one or two have made the Fresh Faves, but most are here simply because I heard them and loved them. I possess several hallmarks of being human, so please enjoy the imperfections in my mixing and the ambitious range of genres and tempos I’ve incorporated. You can find the previous mixes at www.willfarrmusic.com, where you’ll also learn more about this project and my enthusiasm for promoting grassroots artists.

The set list for this mix was curated over the months since volume 2, and I have placed an emphasis on including artists who missed out on previous recordings. So, let’s consider the theme of this volume to be “fairness.” I’m sure many of us have been enjoying a week of rest, warmth, comfort, generosity, and togetherness. However, I have intentionally included tracks to remind us all of the inequality in society. For example, this mix (fleetingly) features Mistrust’s track “Life,” the proceeds of which support The Whitechapel Centre, a homeless and housing charity. You can help them by purchasing Mistrust’s music or donating directly via this link: https://www.whitechapelcentre.co.uk/donate.html.

We all know that putting others before ourselves is the right thing to do, but it’s not always easy to achieve without enough motivation. It’s important to acknowledge and celebrate those who lead by example, so thank you, Mistrust, for showing us the way.

As we near the end of the year, I propose we make 2025 all about helping others and building community. At the very least, let’s use our creativity to inspire others to feel empowered to create positive change.

Thank you for visiting, reading, and listening—and for continuing to support the Fresh on the Net community.

Will x

  1. Amazing!! Thank you so much for including us in this mix! I’ll be sure to listen to it’s entirety (and for all those minor human imperfections within the mix 😉)

Thank you so much for the support 🫶

  2. daniel

Will! Hurray! Thank you very much, brotha!

  3. Another great ‘mixtape’, which I know you put your heart and soul into. Kudos.

  4. Subordinate Clause

Thanks for putting my track on this, will get a listen to the mix tomorrow!

  5. Kel

Hey Will. It’s difficult to express how grateful we are to be included here. You have been a shining light in our 2024 with your kind words on our music. As everyone reading and involved with FOTN certainly knows, it’s tough out there. Being recognised as having done a good job of a song amid a huge ocean of music, it really does make it all worthwhile. Lots of love. Thank you so much! Kel – The Empty Page

  6. Andy Smythe

Brilliant stuff Will for supporting grassroots artists and promoting the ‘fight against inequality’. It’s getting worse out there and we all need to make our voice heard and use art in a positive way to ‘change the world for the better’. Will listen in and share across my social media!

  7. Happy Twixmas Will,
    From crisps to chocolate bars.
Very excited to give this a spin.
Lovely words above also as we draw this year to a close and reflect.
    Peace and Love 🌞⭐️

    Hey Will:
Thanks for all the hard work. . . Sounds good.

  9. Tim McInnes

Thanks for including my song in this mix. I’ll give it a listen!

  10. Arpraxis

As always, an awesome selection. Lots of new music for the soul.

  11. Thank you so much for including my song “Nevergreen” on this fantastic collection of songs.

  12. Lots of great music on here as ever, hopefully more people in 2025 will find the gems in the independent scene. Some great venues in Notts right now if you’re looking at putting anything on this way.

  13. John Joseph Blackburn

thanks Will… loads of stuff on here I like, great work!

  14. Thank you for your kindness and engagement, it means a lot.

It seems worth repeating something that I managed to articulate in conversation back in November, because I think it to be a healthy perspective:

It’s hard enough to get people who love you to listen to your music, most of the time. Humans are in a weird consumer/capitalism funnel of least resistance. We’ve got our work cut out for us, but having realistic expectations is helpful for not getting lost to despair when releasing music. It would take 570 years to listen to everything on Spotify from start to finish with no gaps. At this point in history, if one person listens to your music and gets it, then you’re already wayyy up there in terms of being successful…

  15. DEBRISON

great mix! glad to be part of it. thanks!

  16. Will, thank you for including “Life” in your latest mix and for the mention here. I’m touched by your kind words. However it’s the staff and volunteers at The Whitechapel Centre and countless other charities who are the real inspiration. It’s worth pointing out that The Whitechapel Centre’s donation centre was broken into 2 days before Christmas and hundreds of items destined for people in need were taken. Thankfully people rallied round and donated items and money so no-one missed out. However they still need your support, so please make a donation if you can!

  17. Just back from being away for Christmas. Was hectic, might even skip New Year’s Eve’s partying and settle down for a listen to what always contains some tracks that sparks ideas. Good work Will.

  18. Ah, Will – I’ve only just seen this! Thanks so much for including my track on your lovely mix.
    Happy New Year 🙌
