Every week the team individually pick tracks that make up the listening post but there are always “ones that got away”.
These are the alternative picks and some words by our moderators on each one. You can find the tracks in one playlist here.

ALAN DREEZER:
NEVER ENOUGH IN LOVE – Junk Hearts
This thoughtful piano ballad with some excellent subtle production touches is worthy of another look
PINLIGHT – Fizzy
This fun slice of pop with production nods to Prince will definitely make you smile
DEL OSEI-OWUSU/PLATINUMMIND:
THE INFINITY CHAMBER – Toxins
This is a track that I have already played on my show recently, and what I like about it is the late 60s/early 70s psychedelic prog rock feel. The lazy drawl of the vocals make the track for me, as well as the guitar solo contributed by Spectre Horsemen Pale With Dust, this is probably my favourite alt submission of the week.
THE NEW CONSISTENT – Scratch Bites
I love the soulful vibes on this with horns in there too, this has got funk elements over it plus The New Consistent’s unmistakeable Brummie accent!
One word:
Banger.
GRUBBY:
HA HA HATS – STILL LIKE TO DANCE
A theatrical and dramatic track with an ambitious sound. It constantly surprises with lots of cool ideas. I felt like I was watching a live stage show with a full cast of characters
GUY RICH – SHADOWPLAY
This one is so rich and atmospheric! Beautifully produced with loads of space and some wonderfully tactile sounds. Love it!
JOHN MICHIE:
ANDY CROFTS – Blue
Blue is just a great, nostalgic track that feels as if it has been unearthed from the 1960s, shifting from an upbeat Northern Soul-style bounce into moments of dreamy reflection. Great orchestral flourishes, hazy harmonies and a really lush guitar solo. This one feels absolutely timeless.
ALEXANDER CARSON – Who Would Have Thunk It
This track is beautifully atmospheric, unfolding like a lingering memory. Piano, drums and ambient textures are gently pushed into reverb, blurring into something distant and melancholic. The pacing is unhurried, rather than conventional structure, it leans into narrative fragments and a half-spoken delivery.
NEIL MARCH:
YURII SHER – Seconds Away
Yes I know I picked Yurii Sher last time too but Seconds Away is another example of his ability to create evocative but ethereal atmospheres with his careful configurations and delicate but dynamic piano play. Almost fiery and yet, by equal measure, understated, this is part of his Walking On Clouds EP.
CHARLIE FORREST – Phish
His last single made the fresh faves but Charlie missed out on the Listening Post this time around. Phish is probably best described as contemporary psychedelic folk. Spy movie lead guitar contrasts with quiet strummed chords. Clever and unpredictable rhythmic shifts shorten and lengthen bars in a form of metric modulation while the vocals and corresponding harmonies are dreamy and appealing.
SHARON PEARCE:
DANIEL IORIO – Kingdoms
I liked the hazy, atmospheric feel of this one – the vocal effects add a dreamy edge, while the slower pace and reflective mood make it feel intimate and thoughtful.
ROBERT JAMES GREY – Fire Doesn’t Care
A piano-led track with soft vocals and subtle beats, capturing a tense, chaotic relationship dynamic through a simple but effective arrangement.
SHERRY SAHAYARAJ:
LOYD – Thin Skin
I like how mellow and soft Thin Skin feels. The vocals and the melody carry this quiet sadness throughout the track, but somehow it still sounds peaceful rather than heavy. Everything blends together so gently, creating this calm emotional atmosphere that stays with you even after the song ends.
LETTIE – Pirate Lover
I liked how Pirate Lover feels playful yet a bit mysterious at the same time. There’s this soft indie energy running through it that makes the track feel light, but still emotionally textured. My favourite parts are the background soft flute and the saxophone in the second part.

Great work fellow mods. 🙂
