ALAN DREEZER:
FRETHIKE – FRIEND OF MINE
Reminiscent of classic Michael McDonald with some Eric Clapton guitar licks included for good measure this really is a smile inducing joy!
PINLIGHT – SACCHARINE
I’ve been an admirer of Jenny Laah’s submissions for a while now and this one hits the mark once again!
DEL OSEI-OWUSU/PLATINUMMIND:
THE NEW CONSISTENT – Melee Of Love
The Midlands answer to The Streets is back and my ears were tricked on first hearing this because I honestly thought this was an indie shoegaze track and then the unmistakeable tones of The New Consistent comes in and you know you’re in familiar territory. A really enjoyable listen as always.
MONTAO – Bright Skies Over The Baltic Triangle
I like that aesthetic of mashed up tape that’s been dug up, it suits this downtempo track, nice touch of saxophone on this. Nice work from my dude Montao from Liverpool!
JOHN MICHIE:
GURRY WURRY – Like A Landlord
From bright synths to grittier choruses, this is a genuinely creative track that gives off the vibe of David Bowie crossed with the Beta Band and early solo Paul McCartney.
JUSTIN SCONZA – Starting Over Again
This one brings to mind Harry Nilsson, built around a gentle acoustic guitar with a relaxed, breezy feel. Sconza delivers a smooth, warm and reflective vocal performance on this wistful track.
NEIL MARCH:
LEI RIPOSA – Let Me Show You
I’m a long-time sucker for a bit of Euro-Trance with those big washes of synths, beats that drop in and out and a dreamy atmosphere. Occasional female vocal tops it all off.
METADRON – Alien Garden Party
I love the unsettling ‘other room’ feel of this. Spacy, trippy and, well it is an alien garden party they are describing so what did you expect?
SHARON PEARCE:
ANDREW VAN GARRATT – Gnosis Oasis
A short, sharp blast of guitar rock that packs surprising energy into less than two minutes. Driving rhythm guitar, a brief lead break, and minimalist vocals that don’t dominate the mix. Great title, too.
THE GODS THEY MADE – Hypnotic
Powerful drum and bass work provides the driving force, while the strong vocals add conviction. The rhythm section keeps the momentum building, giving the song a relentless, intense feel throughout.
Sheena Cameron
HOT TOTTIE – Pavilion
This is Hot Tottie’s debut single on Glasgow’s impressive student-run indie label, Electric Honey Records. This track has great, lively energy, driven by an unrelenting rhythm, and I love the jangly guitar riffs that recall the indie-pop sound of Postcard and C86. What really stands out for me is the distinctive shared vocal; this couple are like a sparky country duo or a folksy Sonny and Cher, but with a punk edge.
BURR ISLAND – Petrichor
Such an evocative title! This song stirs both senses and emotions, with a marching drumbeat that suggests someone soldiering on and a building tempo that brings a sense of hope. With lovely Seventies-style folk harmonies, it is a track to lose yourself in.
SHERRY SAHAYARAJ:
BAOBOU’S MUSIC – Falling Apart
I like how the electric guitar part is the main melody. The simplicity of the arrangement gives it a natural, effortless charm. A simple yet captivating listening experience.
SARIFE & ANGELS OF LIBRA – Una Ultima Vez
The track starts with very gentle, soft and ethereal vocals that set a dreamy and atmospheric tone. The phrase “Una Última Vez” is incredibly catchy and lingers in your mind long after the song ends. My favourite part of the song is the bridge riff.
