A WORD FROM DEL: Hey everyone, thanks to all our readers for voting this weekend, and of course to the artists who submitted tracks. I would like to ask a huge favour to those who made the faves this week – now that you have made the faves you cannot submit another track for 90 days.

Can we also ask that you can support the independent artists who will be on the listening post next week and vote for your favourite fave tracks? The listening post opens on Friday morning and stays open until Sunday evening 6pm UK time.all we ask is that you spare half an hour and vote for your favourite five tracks.

Also if you share this, please make sure to tag the correct instagram accounts in this case @fotnblog is our official account, and @trustthedoc and @sherrysahayra are the authors.

Thankyou.

Over to you Neil and Sherry.

SHERRY: Hello, everyone. It’s been a while since our last review together. I’m really glad to be back doing this with Neil for this week’s favourites. It’s been an incredibly hot and sticky few days. Honestly, even being from the south of India, I’ve never experienced heat quite like this. Weather like this makes me feel like freezing cold days are much easier to handle; you can always layer up and get on with things. This kind of heat just drains the energy out of you. That said, it has eased a bit, and yesterday brought a much nicer, cooler breeze, which was a relief. Anyway, I hope you’re all staying safe, keeping hydrated, and not forgetting your sunscreen during this intense weather.

NEIL: After both having written the reviews recently, it is nice to be back doing them jointly with Sherry, my super talented bandmate, who has just received recognition from the Arts Council for her international potential. It has been the hottest and most humid June week since records began, which has seen workplaces having to shut and send staff home and certainly has not been conducive to going out much! Climate Change deniers, you really need to take a long look at yourselves! Meanwhile, the milder temperature means I am able to stand being in my designated working space, listening to and researching the ten tracks our discerning readers have chosen from the weekend’s Listening Post. Cold drinks at the ready so here goes.

ADAM WEDD – U Ate My Sandwhich

Singer-songwriter and radio presenter Adam Wedd has been building a reputation for his music that has seen him get played on BBC 6 Music and Absolute Radio as well as getting out and about, playing cool venues around the UK. Since late 2025, he has also been working at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios.

SHERRY: You Ate My Sandwich has a strong pop-rock vibe, with a really catchy chorus that sticks in your head straight away. What makes the track interesting is the storytelling. It keeps you curious as it unfolds. Overall, if you enjoy pop-rock with a bit of fun and wit, this one’s definitely worth a listen.

NEIL: There are some very familiar references here, bizarrely including part of the melody from Jilted John (albeit in a very different context!) and a hook that references part of Manic Monday (again in a different context!) but otherwise this is a driving fuzztone-fuelled slice of, as Sherry so aptly described it, ‘Pop Rock with a bit of fun and wit’, a tongue-in-cheek but rueful story telling lyric and seriously punchy production that is the perfect fit for an effortlessly energetic and tuneful track.

ANELIE – 24- Entrance

London-based Anelie makes music that reflects her French origins and fuses some classic influences. Once described, in a positive way obviously, by BBC Scotland’s Phoebe I-H as being like a ‘creepy mermaid’, another radio presenter, in an interview, called her ‘one of the most groundbreaking voices to come out of this generation’. So you get the picture. Anelie is genuinely someone and something special.

NEIL: 四- Entrance (or 4 – Entrance) has an almost ghostly quality. It builds around a slowish triplet time and rich chords. Anelie’s voice is soft in tone but strong in expression and definitely distinctive. There is a cinematic quality here in the sense that it could make a very powerful movie moment in the right context. The instrumental arrangement is sophisticated and nuanced and Anelie’s performance is spellbinding.

SHERRY: Yes, like Neil mentioned, Anelie’s voice is very distinctive and fits the vibe of the track really well. There’s an eerie atmosphere running through it, and the softness of her vocals adds to that beautifully. I also like how the track keeps things quite simple, yet still builds into something powerful.

B OF BRIZ – Avarice

Bristol’s B of Briz scarcely needs introducing. She is a regular at Fresh on the Net, known for her intelligent, biting social commentary and sparse Hip Hop style. She has always made her identity a well-kept secret, leading sometimes to intriguing or amusing speculation as to who she really is! Maybe we will know one day but who doesn’t love a mystery? Her Instagram has a number of pics where she is wearing a mask but, if you know her, I imagine you would not struggle to recognise her and maybe that is how she would prefer it to be. A ‘need to know’ basis. A new album of anti-fascist alt hip hop is in the pipeline.

SHERRY: This is such a unique track. The piano drives the track with a looping, almost hypnotic feel, sitting nicely over a steady beat. It carries a strong message, keeping us engaged with rhythmic lyrics. It’s a track that you would want to play on repeat.

NEIL: This is trademark B of Briz. Piano builds the intensity with an arpeggio-like figure rolling around the mix against a solid beat. The lyrics have a stream-of-consciousness feel as she sounds out another warning to the deluded, the deranged and the do-nothings. We live in an era where there is no room for complacency. Listen to B and not to Farage, Musk or any of their ilk.

GLIMMER AND FOLD – Flying Objects

German duo Glimmer And Fold are Maria Pattusch (Vocals, Guitar & Bass Guitar) and Nick Pattusch (Drums & Percussion). Their Bandcamp blurb says they blend ‘… the raw energy of Rock with the melodic ease of Pop’. They took a bit of a family break from recording but are now very much back out there, creating new songs, each telling its own tale.

NEIL: I love the energy of this track. The instrumental arrangement is inventive and the clever clatter of the beat, set against single chords gives way to some quiet jangle and Maria’s slightly ethereal voice delivering a striking melody over extended chords and subtle rhythmic shifts. This is full of ideas and some historic references drift in and out of focus, adding an unobtrusive nostalgic air to the experience.

SHERRY: Flying Object has a really dreamy vibe to it. The vocals add a nice brightness, which fits the whole track. My favourite part is the distorted guitar riff; it’s super catchy. There’s also this subtle, mysterious vibe running through the track, and it is much complemented by Maria’s vocals.

JACOB COLEY – Where My Heart Is

From Cornwall in the far South West of England comes Jacob Coley, a favourite of BBC Introducing in the region. When not playing gigs or festivals in the Cornwall area, he has been up in London playing at the prestigious Lexington and generally getting out and about.

SHERRY: This has to be my favourite track. I love how the track starts with a heavy beat. It keeps us engaged from the start with a good story. The production is simple in the beginning and as we listen the energy burst is amazing and it’s pure eargasm.

NEIL: Where My Heart Is springs into action with big beefy guitar chords chopping slowly over a heavy beat as Sherry has noted. Jacob’s vocals are put through a Lennon-like short echo effect. As the track develops, additional guitar, long keyboard chords and an extension to the chorus all take this forward with momentum. Shades of Bon Iver in a mash with Tame Impala but also infused with some rockier guitar elements.

LUCY WROE (FEAT. TOM B) – Always

Strongly endorsed by our founder and music/broadcasting legend Tom Robinson on this weekend’s Listening Post, Lucy Wroe is a familiar name to FOTN and BBC Introducing and she teams up here with Tom B. She played a series of gigs in 2025 and most recently performed at the Morocco Bound Bookshop.

NEIL: From the moment this kicks off with long synth tones and lovely extended and suspended acoustic guitar chords, it grabs attention and then Lucy’s lovely, expressive voice dances into centre stage with an engaging melody. The little echoing distant notes in pairs that appear between verses are a clever touch and, when Lucy adds a harmony, it reinforces the foward momentum of the track. Top-notch songwriting matched by an emotion-shredding vocal performance plus perfectly balanced and translucent arrangement and production. I can see why Tom was so taken with this track.

SHERRY: I have to agree with Neil on this, such amazing songwriting, As we listen, the track takes us to another world. The song is very expressive and gives us a live experience of every phrase. The harmonies add so much colour to the track. Overall, it’s a go-to song when you want to sit with your emotions and brood in another world.

MADELEINE – Earth Cry

Madeleine, as well as having a DJ show on Sister Midnight’s new radio station, has been performing with a band at gigs and festivals from London to Glasgow and back. She describes her music as Future Soul and she is playing the Brick Lane Jazz Festival this week.

SHERRY: The song starts with very alluring vocals, as if Mother Earth is talking to us. The message that this track exhibits is much needed for the world right now. The lyrics are well written. The layers of vocal harmonies and backing vocals are impressive . The track stays soft but carries a powerful message throughout the song. It’s one song that is addictive, and I would add it to a playlist immediately. If you are into ambient and atmospheric sounds this song would be a great choice.

NEIL: Earth Cry, as the title suggests, carries a stark warning about continuing neglect of the planet. Long, compressed electric piano chords and delicate runs of single notes bring a dreamy disposition before a crisp beat underpins a laid back sophisticated and jazzy vibe. I agree with Sherry about the alluring vocals. Madeleine’s alto range is rich and authoritative while the little shifts in rhythmic configurations and the spacy extended chords add to the aura. There is an echo of Tasmin Archer perhaps in a mash with Yazmin Lacy while the growing ambience, lush chord sequence and fluid bass towards the end have a Brand New Heavies-ish vibe and a hint of Steely Dan too. Real quality.

MISTO QUENTE – Chalk Outlines

Rooted in Aberystwyth in West Wales, Brazilian in name and international in terms of band membership, Misto Quente have fashioned a correspondingly international sound (perhaps not unlike Rio 18, also Welsh-Brazilian in origin). The creative spark at the core of this fluid collective is Gareth Hall with mixing and mastering by Taylor Harris. Various other musicians contribute at different times. Rafael Naine also co-arranged this track which is a cover of a song by Ren & Chinchilla. All proceeds from sales of the single go to the mental health charity MIND.

NEIL: This has a lilting Latin undercurrent with tastefully played acoustic guitar figure and octave apart female and male vocals setting out an appealing and slightly melancholy tune that is sometimes adorned with sweet harmonies. The instrumentation is subtle; a simple but striking bassline, little keyboard colourings and Jao Gilberto-ish guitar while the beat shuffles agreeably along at the base of it all. The singing and the tunes themselves are quite goose-bumping and they have respected the original while taking it very much into their own interpretation.

SHERRY: When i listened to this track, I liked it right away. I love how the track starts with both male and female voices singing together. As Neil said, the track has a Latin vibe, and it reminds me of Little Do You Know by Alex and Sierra but with a Latin pop hint. The vocals complement each other very well. Overall, it’s a very catchy track that would be on repeat.

THE DELTA SOUND – Take Your Pity Home

The name The Delta Sound may evoke images of old blues harmonica players on a Mississipi doorstep but these guys are unmistakably British albeit with a post-Britpop style that is infused with Electric Blues and other more traditional influences. They were formed in Brixton, South London and have had support from the likes of Steve Lamacq and Abbie McCarthy, not to mention playing Glastonbury in 2023.

SHERRY: This track will keep you hooked from the start with its impressive guitar parts. The catchy chorus keeps you on your toes. The bridge is subtle and calm and bursts into this unbeatable energy. It’s a must-listen if you are looking for something edgy, energetic and at the same time atmospheric.

NEIL: I actually played this on my radio show a few weeks ago when it was sent to me by the ever-reliable Danny Watson. It has a lovely bluesy guitar riff underpinning a punchy punky sensibility with an almost slightly sneering male vocal and great instrumental chemistry. As Sherry has pointed out, the bridge is calm and bursts into an energetic chorus. Shades of White Stripes in a jam with Ocean Colour Scene while Dr Feelgood lurk in the shadows. But then they don’t sound especially like any of the above!

TOM BURTON – Everybody’s At It Honey

Tom Burton is an artist with an amazing story, having coped with Type 1 Diebetes and Epilepsy since childhood and continually survived including a relatively recent bout in hospital that saved his life. His Instagram reveals that he is a pianist although this particular track does not include any piano.

NEIL: Everybody’s At It Honey has a lo-fi feel with edgy acoustic guitar in a 4 chord pattern. Initially wordless vocals are followed by a verse and chorus stucture within which Tom’s vocals gradually rise up the register. It’s an intriguing kind of srtipped down Alt Folk that keeps things simple and energised.

SHERRY: I agree with Neil. The track has a very interesting kind of alt folk vibe to it. The airy lead vocals with a strong edgy guitar complements each other in a unique way. The track is catchy with repeated phrases, and it’s easy to remember.
