Friends, musicians and listeners – I’m celebrating my 60th birthday in three weeks’ time on June 1st with a self-financed gig at Shepherds Bush Empire in London – and you can help us spread the word about this great night out:
My band includes punk legend TV SMITH on guitar and award-winning composer and producer NITIN SAWHNEY on keyboards. Also Manc soul vocalist LEE GRIFFITHS with his drummer SAM KELLY (ex Circulus), bassist MAX TAYLOR (Groove Armada, Clor, Roots Manuva) electric guitarist ADAM PHILLIPS (Richard Aschcroft, Just Jack) and sax player TIM SANDERS from The Kick Horns (Eric Clapton, Rufus Wainwright, Baba Maal).
BBC 6 Music presenters SHAUN KEAVENY and GIDEON COE will be making their debut public appearance as guest vocalists during the evening, while the whole show will be hosted by STEVE LAMACQ. Musical guests from today’s generation include fast-rising London trio CHEW LIPS, Tyneside indie stars LITTLE COMETS, Domino recording artist EUGENE McGUINNESS and hotly tipped songwriter COSMO JARVIS who’s also authored a series of stunning short films on YouTube… See the gig homepage at gladtobegrey.net
So a great night out featuring some of my best friends, 6 Music colleagues and favourite new artists – plus a selection of my own songs from back in the day such as 2-4-6-8 Motorway, War Baby and Glad To Be Gay (listen and vote for favourites at tomrobinson.com/list). Doors open at 7.30 – and I’ll be onstage for a short opening set at 8.00pm

SKOPJE
Have a great night, it will be a sell out I’m sure:-) Pete
Hey Skopje – thanks for warning me about the code – it’s fixed now! And yes by all means bring your video camera on the night…
Hope things are well with you?
Hi, Tom, you won’t remember me from your pre-Motorway success days: I was, with Linda Cook, part of the crowd at the Polytechnic of North London who threw themselves behind you & your band, promoting you with gigs, badges etc. We were so proud of you!
So glad that you are happy & hope that you have a brilliantly divine birthday.
Still glad to be,
Kaz x
Happy birthday Tom, won’t get to the gig but just thinking about it brought back memories of my youth. Loved your music then and now. And, seeing TV Smith on the guest list was ace. Remember seein TV smith and the Explorers supporting the Buzzcocks in Blackburn many years ago and spending the rest of the night chatting in the bar with them as the buzzcocks played badly in the hall.
Hope you all have a good night
I’ll miss it by two days ! Ah well, I might catch the one for the 70th ! Cheers, Paul.
Happy Birthday. Just added your link to the website http://www.ukbigpeople.co.uk and it will appear at random with our other banners. Hope it goes well on the night. I was about to dig out some old vinyl and just discovered your music on grooveshark.com.
