Just as a quick followup to last week’s Fresh Faves (Batch 7), Cole Salewicz from The Savage Nomads sent me a link to their new video for Tension In The Middle. If you have the opportunity, it’s worth cranking the resolution up to 1080p and watching this fullscreen on a fast broadband connection.
Great atmospheric clip for a gobsmacking song, evoking a leisurely weekend atmosphere on London’s South Bank. Stunning photography, rich colours and a slowly unfolding narrative with a wonderful central performance. Nothing flashy, no CGI special effects – just sheer classy camerawork, direction and editing…
Having dabbled in iMovie with various domestic cameras for the last 12 years I know how hard it is to achieve results like this, and can’t commend it highly enough.
That is one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time. How’d they make London look so gorgeous?!??
There’s just something about the colour isn’t there. I also like the way the camera keeps gently & smoothly panning – it make the whole thing look really, really classy. The kilted giant apparently is not only a friend of the band but also a Friend Of Freshnet on Twitter called Gav Buchan (@YorkieGav). Gav clearly has some weird pyschic power that makes the bicycle thief go limp and offer no resistance once collared. Favourite moment: the helicopter.
Absolutely adore this song. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Tom. I
Where can I get it? Also do you know if they play shows?
They have a residency with Death2Disco at Notting Hill Arts Club. Their next show there is on 2nd May (with Bear Cavalry, who are also brilliant).
Entry is free before 11pm
