PRICK AND DING #35:ROSE BETTS

Each week Fresh On The Net invites an artist or band to answer a short series of questions in Prick & Ding: the two and a half minute interview. It's convenient and quick - like enjoying a tasty microwave meal!

THIS WEEK: ROSE BETTS

Rose Betts is a singer/songstress based in London Town.

And what a great pianist, songwriter & singer she is.

Its my humble opinion that her song Dreamland would be praised to the roofs across the lands if it was Regina Spektor’s latest single so why shouldn’t we praise it anyroad up as its that good!

New talent right here with fine work, worthy of anybody’s time.

Dreamland is a gorgeous song that shows so much promise,so much ability & so much damn right goodness.Rose is unique in her own right & this song demonstrates the level of songwriting & delivery that futures are built from.

Rose Betts

Rose has played in many prestigious venues around London and  recently won first place in the renowned “SONGSLAM” competition held at The Regal Room, Hammersmith.

There is a great opportunity to catch Rose live soon as she plays at The Elgin, Notting Hill, on the 31st of January.

Fresh On The Net’s lovely newbie Howard Gorman(aka Editor-in-chief at ppsf.co.uk ) perfectly described Rose when she recently made our Fresh Faves feature after being voted in by the public:- “boasting a voice as delicate and ethereal as it is strong, demonstrating an angelic, pitch perfect range on this track. The voice takes centre stage here, and rightly so, whilst the simple backing keyboards, reminiscent of early Keane, complement her voice perfectly. It’s just the right combination as it would have been a major mistake to drown out the best instrument at play here. This is a great pick-me-up track for these icy cold winter mornings we’re having and I’m sure Rose’s haunting vocal will be haunting you for some time to come, in the best sense of the word of course”.

Here’s another lovely song from Rose below, the wonderful ‘Elizabeth’- like I say – worthy of anyone’s time.

To bright futures, this is Prick and Ding #35 & this is Rose Betts.

1. What are you up to at the moment?
Gigging, writing, recording! And have begun working with a fab producer which is very exciting! Watch this space!

2. Favourite childhood memory?
It’s also my first… a shadowy, golden brown coloured memory at home, when my nan gave me, my twin and my younger brother a beautiful red rose each to give to my mother after she’d given birth to my youngest sister on the hottest day of the year. Still feels magical.

3. Hero?
Paul Simon.

4. Villain?
Time.

5. What/who makes you laugh?
My youngest sister doing dodgy impressions and my dad nearly passing out blowing up birthday balloons… must be a family thing!

6. Describe what you do?
I follow my heart.

7. Who’s hair would you like to have for just one day?
Anyone with a particularly impressive and bushy afro that i could store pens in.

8. Best musical experience to date?
That’s a hard one… my first gig at The Troubadour in London was probably the scariest but I felt ridiculously golden afterwards.

9. What artist inspires you?
Krzysztof Kieslowski and Edward Hopper. And the world.

10. What does Fresh On The Net mean to you?
It’s a rare and beautiful thing. One of the hardest parts of being a musician is the constant ‘putting yourself out there’ that is required of you, we have to allow ourselves to be pretty vulnerable, often in places that have no appreciation of what it takes… Fresh On The Net is a rare find where artists can freely share in a place that respects them. Finally, something to shout about!
