BLOOM DE WILDE
DRUG FREE COLLECTIVE
I got some fish, rice and peas in the fridge from last night which I’m about to warm up, get comfy, find my laptop charger (never easy) and get stuck into this weeks tracks…
ASH BATES – The Tourist
A soon as I heard that deep bass kick drum attack underneath the acoustic backdrop I knew right then I was in for a treat. Ash Bates delivers an absolute beauty of a track in the form of The Tourist, with hard-hitting intelligent lyrics followed by angelic harmonies. If this is the first track then I cannot wait to hear the rest of what this week has to offer… INCREDIBLE WORK ASH ❤️
Ash Bates is an alternative folk artist from Shropshire. His songwriting explores the self, the challenges we face as humans and the transmutation of those into new rights of passage. Finding inspiration within artists such as Justin Vernon, Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen, the music evokes a similar but individual, somewhat electronic style.
The Tourist is available now on all music streaming platforms.
BLOOM DE WILDE – Atlas Cassandra
The opening ambience fits so well over that heart-wrenching 808 sub kick, I’m loving the mix between grunge sounding melodies and Atlanta sounding 808 programmed drum patterns.
I’m even more intrigued as the chorus enters — a live drum kit has taken over with the track morphing into something gothic; this is simply genius.
The lead vocals on this record really draws us into a world of strangeness and bliss… THE PRODUCTION QUALITY IS THROUGH THE ROOF!!!
Bloom de Wilde is a London based singer-songwriter, producer and visual artist. With dreamlike, surrealist lyrics and mesmerising melodies, she brings to life a playful world of imaginative revelations. She is currently working on her album Kaleidophone, a colourful constellation of songs channeled straight from the Universe. Atlas Cassandra is available now on all music streaming platforms.
DRUG FREE COLLECTIVE – Football Is Great
Drug Free Collective (something very rare in the music industry LOL) deliver us a passionate football anthem filled with raps about how to score that perfect goal from the side wing.
I absolutely adore the guitar solo that comes halfway through the track, which is extremely random for this genre, but works fabulously.
Drug Free Collective, you lads have something here that could be potentially very VERY SUCCESSFUL! NOW IS THE TIME TO CONTACT THOSE PUBLISHERS…
London-based Drug Free Collective have had previous support from BBC Introducing with their track War On Hate, which also reached the top spot on King Of Spins. Football Is Great is available now on all music streaming platforms.
EMMA MILLER – December
Emma Miller takes you into a lovely bright garden in the sky, filled with wonder and hope. This love-filled dream wave of a song really pulls on that inner child we all have that lusts for an adventure bigger than anything we could imagine.
December delivers angelic-like vocals with an amazing ambient reverb filled piano as the back drop. MY FAVOURITE TRACK OF THE WEEK!!!
Emma Miller is a singer and songwriter from the north east of Scotland, I couldn’t find much information other than this, but really and truly THE MUSIC SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.
December is available on all music streaming platforms.
JOSH SAVAGE – Found In Mexico
As a worldwide representative for Joshes all over the globe (LOL) I was hoping that Josh Savage wouldn’t let the team down, AND HE MOST DEFINITELY DOES NOT!!!
Found In Mexico has a serious tropical island beat sitting behind two well-plucked guitars, somewhat reminiscent of an early Police (Sting) record.
Josh Savage tells us about the love he found in Mexico that delivers the fire he once had back into his soul (in his own words). What a beautiful track!!!! TEAM JOSH…
Josh Savage’s self-releases have been aired on BBC Radio 2, BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music, and accumulated over two million plays on Spotify without PR representation. His Spaces EP hit #28 and Whisper In The Snow made the top 20 in the iTunes singer/songwriter charts. Whisper In The Snow was played on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show by Jo Whiley. Found In Mexico is available on all music streaming platforms.
LYVES – Deep Water
Lyves has an amazing tone to her voice that really speaks to your soul; even if you don’t have one, it speaks to something within you. Deep Water tells a story about expressing the love you have for one, but not having the perfect words to say so. The instrumentation on this record is incredible and reminds me of a Emeli Sande song, which is a great thing. Great track Lyves!!!
Lyves is the alias of Francesca Bergami. Her emotive lyrical themes and alternative route into performing have set her apart from most other artists and earned critical acclaim for her early releases. Deep Water is available on all music streaming platforms.
MEME DETROIT – Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind
This is exactly what I needed to hear on a Monday morning to wake me up. Meme Detroit give us a grunge rock banger here, filled with screaming distorted guitars and cymbal crashing at its finest. This is definitely the type of song you hear at the end credits scene to a Godzilla movie (Paramount pictures, cut the cheque).
Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind is a break-up anthem, the type of song you wake up to after a bad break up, and realise you’re not completely done with this person, but your ego tells you to rebel. The only track I’ve had on constant repeat this week! AMAZING!
Self-described as “uplifting angst”, British/Colombian Latina MeMe Detroit sits somewhere between sleazy grit rock grunge and power indie. Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind is available on all music streaming platforms.
NEEDSHES – Unbelievable
Unbelievable starts off with soulful chords, then all of a sudden morphs into a four to floor club banger.
Needshes deliver a well put together party anthem, this is definitely for those fans of Daft Punk and Jamiroquai, which are my personal favourites. I look forward to hearing a lot more from Needshes, HIGH QUALITY FUNK!!!
Needshes is an alt/rock band founded by Tashkent-born singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Otabek Salamov. He encapsulates his art for composing bluesy story-telling songs with love ballads infused with swagger punk and suffocating alt-rock tints. Unbelievable is available now on all music streaming platforms.
THE HEMPOLICS – Play On
Play On opens with infectious reggae horns of a rude bwoy reggae rap beat and an ongoing guitar playing in an arpeggio manner. The Hempolics deliver a banger of a track, mixing many many different elements across multiple genres, but staying true to its reggae roots. I’m loving this track (PULLLLL UUUUUP MY SELECTA AND COME AGAIN !!!)
The Hempolics are out to put those organic rootsy vibes back into music; with their fat radio-friendly hooks, bumping soundsystem bass and a wanderlusty, ineffably real sound all of their own… The top of the year they will be on tour so check out their socials for the dates. Play On is available on all music streaming platforms.
WET LEG – Girlfriend
Right now! Most people would assume that I don’t listen to punk/grunge due to me being a Grime/Trap Artist, but never judge a book by its cover, because Wet Leg GIRLFRIEND IS MY MOST PLAYED TRACK THIS WEEK.
Wet Leg deliver a banger of a track that begs, no DEMANDS your full attention. I absolutely love the dirty mix down of the track, with all the filters and distortion that gives it that real grit!!!
As soon as I pressed play I smiled!! LOVE IT, LET’S COLLAB…
Girlfriend is the first single from Wet Leg and is available to hear now via Soundcloud / YouTube.
PS from TR: If you’ve submitted a track that hasn’t been picked for the Listening Post, our team has definitely listened to it and there’s no need to send it again: feel free to send us an even stronger track another week. The same goes if you were picked for the Listening Post but didn’t feature in our Fresh Faves.
But if we’ve recently featured you in our Fresh Faves – or on my BBC Introducing Mixtape – please wait three months before sending us another track, so we have space to help other deserving artists… For more info see Robinson Has A Good Old Moan.
