Eclectic Picks: Batch 381

abstract yellow and green diamonds with sliced cut throughs

Every week Signal Committee create an Eclectic Picks playlist. All tracks are selected from the full inbox of 200 tracks that are submitted each week to Fresh On The Net. Check out their picks from Monday 12th October below.

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

Our playlists are orientated to the alternative music fan. Lyrics are not essential, abstract ideas are embraced and the fusing of different genres is encouraged.

This week we ended up with 17 tracks. There were plenty more strong contenders; however in an effort to keep the list under 60 minutes, tough decisions had to be made.

A FEW WORDS ON THIS WEEKS PICKS

The playlist kicks off with Junkyard of Silenced Poets and their dark and dirty wall of noise. They hand over to a ‘CAN’ inspired NYPA before we get electronic & abstract with Dizraeli, a little bit ‘Caribou’ with HACT and then intense & industrial with Autobahn 86.

From there we move on to some psychedelic synth-pop from 88/89, an intense piano piece from James Rushworth and even more ‘Caribou’ vibes from Low Island,

From here it gets warm and fuzzy on the guitars with Magick Mountain. Leg Puppy then crank that fuzz up to industrial psychedelia proportions. That vibe carries through to some hypnotic fuzz & loops from Twinned with Erlangen before heading into some electro-punk from Violent Vickie.

In order to wind down towards the end of the list, we have some more dream-pop, from Kate Lomas, babies and downtempo brass from Lost Sound Club, hypnotic loops from Sloat Fresno before We Are Aerials deliver some atmospheric poetry to bring the list to a profound close.

This is fantastic, right up my street, looking forward to listening to this on my well deserved time off work.

  2. Great list and really pleased to have this on Fresh on the Net. Thanks guys. 🙂

  3. In a completely unbiased way I’ll say this is great. And in a totally biased way I’ll also say this is great! And for someone like myself – who spent more time than I’d dare estimate listening to stuff like Honolulu Mountain Daffodils, Stitched-Back Foot Airman & songs from Peel Sessions that I still have no idea who the artists were – the “Eclectics” are a brilliant rabbit-hole to disappear down for a while. Great work! Honoured to be on this list – You can imagine me singing “Eclecticity” Captain Beefheart style to celebrate, if you’d like!

Massive respect all round – Leo Slayer (the loathsome guitar strangler from Junkyard of Silenced Poets)

  4. CFS

    This is excellent!

  5. Thanks everyone! A privilege to be involved. So much good stuff out there that deserves a bit of love and appreciation so hopefully this will do just that.

  6. Slanting Mounted Head

Didn’t know this was a thing. Awesome!

  7. Cracking idea everyone. Really enjoyed these tracks, thanks. Would have thought the Kate Lomas number would have appeared on the listening post.. but hey ho.

Winge time…. I wish Apple would sort out their search facility on itunes… it is awful! They are always trying to plug their “popular” artists when I’m search for “Effervescent Psycho Novelty No. 5” or whatever.. I know it’s on there but they don’t want to give it to me!
