Eclectic Picks: Batch 393

abstract yellow and green diamonds with sliced cut throughs

Every week Signal Committee create an Eclectic Picks playlist. All tracks are selected from the full inbox of 200 tracks that are submitted each week to Fresh On The Net. Check out their picks from Monday 1st February below.

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

Our playlists are orientated to the alternative music fan. Lyrics are not essential, abstract ideas are embraced and the fusing of different genres is encouraged.

A FEW WORDS ON THIS WEEKS PICKS

This week we ended up with just under 60 minutes of eclectic picks. I won’t dwell on every track but… if we picked your track, we liked it and inevitably others will too if you keep plugging away to get your music heard! So if you are reading this, whether as an artist or as a music fan, please give the full playlist a good blast through and drop a comment below with some positive vibes to all these emerging artists.

  1. All* good stuff, and something very interesting going in on in all* of these tracks (*bar one***!!!).

Still Corners and Fable very rightly included in The Eclectics and Fresh Faves.

And (quoting The White Stripes) “Well, I said it once before /But it bears repeating now:”

Fable’s Orbiting is absolutely and utterly sublime.

Ride/MBV mix of floating vocals over heavy driving bass & drums in Spotlight Kid’s Darkwaters; the jazzy sophistication of the drums elevate Jasper Tygner track to a different level; Garcia Morning’s Rolling Pin is a classic Signal Committee Eclectic Pick – a wonderfully wayward approach to a brilliantly written song; S J Williams’ People have Power is like the DJ Shadow/ Boards of Canada atmosphere Thom Yorke mentioned as informing Kid A & Amnesiac, & includes exquisite electric piano, reverb horn & pure voice; Def Robot again continues to impress with making each song so radically different from the last.

    All* good stuff, though!

Leo Slayer (Loathsome guitar strangler from ***Junkyard of Silenced Poets)

  2. RITUAL CLOAK – Opaque Crater – loved the way the track lights up at the end just when you think you’ve got used to the groove – bravo!
