These Fresh Faves were picked by our readers over the weekend – and reviewed by Fresh On The Net’s Louise Toal this week. You can hear all these tracks in a single Soundcloud playlist here.

330ML – Kick Start

330ml are a London-based duo who first met at university ten years ago and after a random online collaboration was born their debut single Kick Start.

Their recipe for the track includes some tasty bass notes, tangy harmonies, syrupy vocals with a dash of invigorating fizz to bring us the delicious and refreshing pop they want us to enjoy. The track is a catchy and uplifting little love song, which is the perfect breakfast treat for me on this fine Monday morning!

Some of their influences include the likes of Dua Lipa, Calvin Harris and MGMT. If this is just the start of what 330ml have to offer then I get the feeling we are in for lots more tasty treats in the future.

EYESORE & THE JINX – No More Nails

We head to Liverpool now to get a taste of some convincing, observational punk. I really loved No More Nails on my first listen and on researching the track discovered that it’s written about the common habit of nail biting and its connection to anxiety. It’s fair to say we can probably all relate.

No More Nails is the first single release from the forthcoming album Jitterbug, which drops in November.

Eyesore & The Jinx have gained support from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music and Amazing Radio, and I see on their Spotify profile they have a few upcoming gigs starting on July 7th in The Victoria, Birmingham. Do go and check them out if you can!

NEEV – Without Warmth

Originally from Glasgow but now London based, we get to savour the delicious treat that is NEEV. NEEV has just released her debut album Katherine, which is a collection of intricate indie-folk songs. NEEV has a remarkable knack for discovering beauty in the smallest of details. Without Warmth showcases her elegant and understated vocal style and it’s impossible not to be charmed by it.

NEEV has had support from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing Scotland. There are some upcoming gigs listed on her Spotify profile starting on July 5th in London. I suggest you go get some of that wonderful stuff!

PERSON – Sweet Like Rosa

I wish I could give you something in the way of a bio on the artist Person, but I’m afraid I can’t find one. Aside from the fact we know they make music, I have nothing else.

I can, at least tell you that I do really like this track. Sweet Like Rosa sports some dark, shoegazey guitar sounds along with a plaintive melody which makes it rather captivating. With the help of Steve we did find a lyrical YouTube video of the song and I loved the poetic nature of the words.

Hopefully we will find out more about the artist soon!

SAYTR PLAY – Butterfly Stitches

Let’s head to Manchester to meet Satyr Play. Butterfly Stitches is the single release from the new EP of the same title. A nice little slice of Indie Pop, which on the surface appears to be upbeat and fun but actually, when you strip it down it’s more about being in love in a small minded town and after the initial butterflies of that love and the pressure on the relationship it results in scars.

I’ve heard amazing things about front man, Fred Farrell. Fellow mod and festival 110 Above aficionado, Oldie Rob tells me that he’s mad as a hatter and gives every performance 125% and Rob would know!

Satyr Play have been championed by BBC Introducing Lancashire and Radio X as well as getting great feedback from Louder Than War.

SLY HAND – Self-help

We’re spicing things up now with this Sunderland duo, two estranged cousins who formed a band in 2019 after enduring a family trauma to bring us a wallop of raw, punk energy.

SLY HAND describe themselves as “the neurotic sons of the city’s punk lineage” which I think is perfect. Think post-pandemic, post-Brexit, post-truth world dystopian vibes and some noise that’s so defiant that even the synth sounds sarcastic! It’s little surprise that I’m loving this track and need more of the same.

SUPER FULL MOON – Baby Blue

Super Full Moon is an outfit led by Zimbabwean-born but London-based songwriter Michael Palmer. The Super Full Moon mission is based around craft. The craft of songwriting, the craft of production and the craft of release artwork which Michael paints by hand!

Baby Blue is dedicated to all the newborns in the world. It gives the new generation an honest welcome to the world we live in. It’s not all fairy tales and happy endings but you’ll find your feet, you have to endure the darkness as well as the light.

It’s plain to hear that Michael is a gifted songwriter. He has composed for film and TV commercials and has had support from BBC Introducing.

TASHKEZAR – Ew’aa

I don’t know about you, but I’m ALWAYS in the mood for a little chunk of some uplifting Turkish / Egyptian psych-funk! I bet my mate and fellow mod Andy is currently wowing his work colleagues with his dance moves to this one.

Ew’aa (Watch Out!) marks a significant departure from Tashkezar’s more folky sound. The track calls out the cognitive dissonance of viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses whilst Sahsah! emboldens us to soldier on and dance in the face of adversity.

A firm favourite with readers this week.

THE KUT – Runaways

Criminal Records bring us some more punk rock now in the form of the London based, multi-instrumentalist talent that is The Kut. Runaways is fresh from the album GRIT on which The Kut (PhD) leads on vocals and guitar, moonlighting as both bassist and drummer on two tracks alongside her collective of women in music.

The Kut has gained respect throughout the rock world including support from the likes of Kerrang Radio and Vive Le Rock, to name a few. A sure powerhouse and brilliant ambassador for women in music.

The Kut has lots of lovely merch available to buy online if you fancy.

THE LOW COUNTRIES – I’m Away Now

We wrap up the Fresh Faves in the form of Anglo-Flemish, Indie/Folk duo The Low Countries, headed by singer/songwriter Nigel Parrington.
I’m Away Now is a gorgeous way to finish my reviews. The soul-stirring harmonies make for a more relaxed mind, which is very welcome after a busy morning.

Nigel has been performing in his own bands for most of his life. He has been a lyricist for Warner Bros Music and has had support from BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing Lancashire.

At just under 2 minutes of pure charm I think I can afford a few more listens before I head back to real life!

The Low Countries

PS from TR: If you’ve submitted a track that hasn’t been picked for the Listening Post, our team has definitely listened to it and there’s no need to send it again: feel free to send us an even stronger track another week. The same goes if you were picked for the Listening Post but didn’t feature in our Fresh Faves.

But if we’ve recently featured you in our Fresh Faves – or on my BBC Introducing Mixtape – please wait three months before sending us another track, so we have space to help other deserving artists… For more info see Robinson Has A Good Old Moan.
