DEL OSEI-OWUSU/PLATINUMMIND:
BGBGB FEAT. CREEPER BEATS – Mr Follow The Script (Creeper’s Reasoning)
BGBGB in my experience has always come with something interesting – this is a drum n bass track that includes intrusive voices pitched down plus crowd cheering. The track is definitely representative of the heatwave we’re having – it’s pure fire.
ISAAC NEILSON – Getting Better
This track had me from the get go, the vocals are very theatrical and the build gives it really big energy. I’ve played this on my show recently and it’s definitely a favourite!
GRUBBY:
NAUT – Heart Of The Machine
Squelchy, creaky and constantly inventive, this is a feast for the ears with clicks , bleeps and acoustic sounds all mixed together in an onslaught of tactile elegance.
KING ZEPHA – You And Me
Like an eager puppy, this is pure, bouncy energy with a smooth warmth and loads of upbeat personality
JOHN MICHIE:
MOFGY – Chickapow!
Great little indie rock track that channels the best aspects of the late 1970s and early 1980s… also has one hell of a catchy chorus.
JUSTIN SCONZA – Dancin With The Devil
I keep nominating Mr Sconza… think this is the third week in a row.. Once again he serves up the vintage vibes with solid songwriting and some great classic sounds.
NEIL MARCH:
THE FANTOM MAN & FURIOUS LABS PRODUCTIONS ft ST3V3L33 – CHEATER on 9th Street
A collaboration of all familiar names bringing together an enigmatic ambient electronic backdrop and infusing it with some jazz sensibilities.
SUGAR RICH – You Make Me Feel
No, not the Sylvester Disco classic, this is a shuffling lo-fi semi-acoustic slice of Alt Pop courtesy of the Japan-based artist Richard (aka Sugar Rich). Contrasts between deadpan low register vocals and higher passionate ones add to the enjoyment.
SHARON PEARCE:
LOST SIGNAL – Spooky Action At A Distance
A moody electronic instrumental featuring cosmic textures, eerie effects and intermittent signal-like pulses that enhance its mysterious atmosphere.
THE DAWN ROAR – Dylan Had It Right
An indie-folk track that builds from acoustic guitar with melodic electric guitar and military-style drums. Thought provoking lyrics reflect on conflict and history.
Sheena Cameron
PEPLO – For His Better Three Quarters
This was one of my top five at last week’s moderation. Dreampop at heart, with Celtic and prog textures, it is an ode to an amicable break-up, starting gently before shifting into a glorious, anthemic chorus. The band shows an experimental touch with song structure and lyric writing, and I’m looking forward to further releases. Love those drums.
TIGER ISLAND – Comments Boy
Tiger Island burst in with a short, edgy guitar intro and sassy vocals, making their intent clear as they sprint through this track in 1 minute and 43 seconds. It’s a bit cheeky and great fun; they’re taking no nonsense in these lyrics-“…stick your neck back in”.
SHERRY SAHAYARAJ:
OLIVIA MARIA – Chasing The Sun
I love the dreamy and epic vibe of the song. And it’s very rhythmic and easy to sing along.
The vocals and the synth complement each other. The harmonies add so much colour to the track
SHANE SATO, COASTAL & GLEN TURNER II – Pulse
Just this instrumental with no vocal melody is pure eargasm. The saxophone melody throughout the song gives a very elite vibe and a fine evening party energy.
Thanks very much Sharon Pearce for choosing “Spooky Action at a Distance” among this excellent collection.
Fantastic to have CHEATER on 9th Street selected for this week’s super Alt Picks! Diolch Neil and all the team. #superduper
