After an eventful summer break filled with reviews and interviews by a few of our mods here at Fresh On The Net, we’re back on and popping like corn.

With over 260 track in the inbox this week I must say, this has been the most difficult so far for me so far (so many bangers so few spaces). Huge congratulations to all the artist’s and bands who made it through the pile!

CHISARA AGOR – Divine

This record is simply amazing! Dealing with self doubt and being told you’re never good enough, Chisara Agor urges you to keep on and reminding you that yes you are Divine.

Lyrics such as “Don’t waste your time wondering if they will love you again” automatically made this record a standout amongst the bunch… I am a sucker for a good self motivating track.

The production here is nothing less than AWSOME… with trumpets and rising strings this right here people is an anthem for the times.

THE LEVEL OF QUALITY HAS JUST BEEN UPGRADED…

Chisara Agor is an actor / musician / choreographer from Peckham South East London. Divine is available to stream everywhere, and also has a beautiful video to accompany it via YouTube.

CLOTH – Tripp

Tripp does exactly what is says in the title, this track is a melodic rollercoaster flying through the ambience while the sunsets. I personally love nothing more than live nostalgic guitars over a programmed drumbeat switching randomly from a 4/4 pattern to a 3/4.

Cloth have presented to us a beautiful piece of musical artwork… definitely one of my faves this week.

Cloth is an alternative/electronic three piece band hailing from Glasgow. This summer they scored their first BBC radio play with the track Demo Love on Roddy Hart’s introducing show. Trip is available to stream everywhere now.

ELMA ORKESTRA – Lithium

Soon as you press play on this record you’re met with an emotional warped warm guitar strumming away in the ambience.

With a perfect mix of acoustic and digital instruments this soundscape takes you through a whirlwind of feels, Elma Orkestra leaves no ambient stone unturned on this amazing record.

After the seventh listen my liking for this track increases every time.

Elma Orkestra is producer / composer / songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eoin O’Callaghan from Derry, Northern Ireland. His 2018 debut album Flutter: Part One is available on all streaming sites.

FØNX – Come On Over

Well-polished new age ballad! I must say my first thoughts while listening to this track was “if this is not in the official charts, it will be soon”.

If FØNX keeps releasing amazing tracks like this he has definitely got a bright future ahead of him.

With a silky voice and a laid-back swinging drum pattern creates a WIN WIN WIN situation for your eardrums.

My fave tracks always change while going through the final 10, but this may be the one right here…

FØNX is a Brit school graduate who specialises in soul and RnB music. He self-released two EPs, which were written and produced solely in his bedroom and gained attention and support from BBC Introducing’s Abbie McCarthy, and radio airplay from BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary, and BBC Radio 6 Music’s Tom Robinson. Check out his Soundcloud page for all the latest.

GIANT BOYS – Clap Your Hands

High octane, straight to the point NO BS type of track. The type of song you will hear during the opening scene of a Quentin Tarantino flick.

Giant Boys hold nothing back on this punk headbanger, with the lead vocalist screaming at the top of his vocals “I DONT KNOW WHAT I WANT”, and distortion rolling off the guitars creates an amazing melodic mess.

I really REALLY love this track, and this is coming from a Grime producer! Good one fellas. P.S. Kick-ass name.

Giant Boys are a Post-Punk two man band from Salford/Manchester. Their new EP Clap Your Hands is out now.

JOE THOMPSON — Torn Down Poster for a Missing Dog

Joe Thompson blesses us with a deep cutting-edge track regarding mental health, something in my opinion seems to be brushed under the carpet rather than discussed publicly.

Torn Down Poster For A Missing Dog is a very honest track dealing with anxiety and depression; I salute Joe Thompson for having the confidence and pure honesty for writing this beautiful track.

I may have listened to the track over 30 times, IT’S POWERFUL!!

Joe Thompson is a synth-pop artist haling from west Yorkshire. In early 2018, he self-released three songs from his bedroom, each garnering over 1,000 streams online and positive reception. Check out his Soundcloud for all the latest.

PARKER LEE – Drunk

Parker Lee brings you a laid-back drinker’s anthem. The vocal delivery on this record is slightly wobbly, as if he actually was drunk while recording which makes this track even more special.

We have all had those times when we downed a few and battled with self pity; Parker Lee has created the sound track for that moment and it’s freakishly awesome.

I love the lo-fi effect on the drums…

Parker Lee are a garbageshop quartet that write rock songs for day-to-day catharsis, tying up lyrical themes of self-indulgence and primal fears into a neat little package of good old-fashioned drive and math influences. Check out Soundcloud for all their latest.

TILLY VALENTINE – Coins

“Am I just another coin in the bottom of your pocket?” I absolutely love Tilly Valentine’s delivery on this track. With a somewhat rap sung verse and chorus that makes this a raw, edgy, straight-to-the-point banger of a record. Tilly expresses in song what most of us would love to scream out to our exes while keying the sides of their BMW.

One of the standout tracks this week!!!

Tilly Valentine is a British electronic artist drawing influences from trip hop, jazz and RnB graduate of The BRIT School, Tilly continues to work on material with producers from across Europe, and has had her originals broadcast on BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1Xtra. She is now gigging in London and around the UK. Check out all her tracks via Soundcloud.

YAKIMA – Judy’s Lament

My initial thought when I first heard Judy’s Lament was “Nirvana meets Wheatus”. Yakima really bring you that summer feeling rolled up in a well presented gift box. With a really eerie feel and amazing spooky pre-chorus bridge, this track embodies vulnerability in a delightful manner.

I can’t help but feel a sense of comfort as the lead vocals walk you down a psychedelic wonderland filled with human emotions. One word for this record: SPLENDID!

Judy’s Lament is the debut single by Yakima, a four-piece alternative rock band from Scotland. Judy’s Lament is available to stream now — also check out the artwork for the cover, it’s pretty cool.

YOKE LORE – Ride

Incredible new single from Yoke Lore, as soon as the track started I knew straight away this was going to be one of those special moments.

This is a heartfelt melodic fiery beast of a song, with sound quality to equal some of the bigger bands in this genre. With songs like Ride it’s only a matter of time before Yoke Lore become a household name.

Yoke Lore is a indie pop act from New York currently signed to Coda booking agency. He is currently on a European tour checkout his website for all the dates.

PS from TR: If you’ve submitted a track that hasn’t been picked for the Listening Post, our team has definitely listened to it and there’s no need to send it again: feel free to send us an even stronger track another week. The same goes if you were picked for the Listening Post but didn’t feature in our Fresh Faves.

But if we’ve recently featured you in our Fresh Faves – or on my BBC Introducing Mixtape – please wait three months before sending us another track, so we have space to help other deserving artists… For more info see Robinson Has A Good Old Moan.

  1. Great reviews, lovely music, its a win-win situation

  2. Fantastic reviews Josh. Written with such a love for the music.

  3. Such profound words esp. for the two tracks I liked most from last week’s listening. 🙂 So Elma Orkestra hails from Derry … The Welsh and the Irish really make the lion’s share of my listening delight on FOTN’s Listening-Post and Inbox. 😉

And Tilly Valentine’s track COINS is reviewed so lovely. 🙂 I loved her fresh lyrics too much. Just the fish that I praise to spend depth to the (music’s) sea.

  4. great stuff…. but hang on DAISY BONES – Choke didn’t get through? I demand a second vote, you can’t trust the British people to vote on anything!

  5. posted on the wrong week! Ahem
