Mia Wilks

At 17 years old, Mia Wilks is an authentic musician and storyteller emerging from the London music scene.
Born in Woolwich and deeply rooted in South East London, Mia grew up surrounded by rich and diverse culture, with musical influences from across the globe. With no extended family living in London, she spent many hours on long car journeys to visit relatives-soundtracked by the sounds of 90s R&B and soul.
Artists like Faith Evans, Michael Jackson, Mary J Blige, Sade, Maxwell and Aaliyah became the backdrop to her childhood, and their influence still resonates in her music today.

From an early age she began writing and recording songs on an iPad in her bedroom, inspired by fellow ‘bedroom musician’ Steve Lacy and his DIY approach to creating music.
At the age of eight, Mia experienced a moment that would shape her journey. A music teacher once told her, in front of the class, that she couldn’t sing. The memory of that day, and how devastated she felt, became a turning point. Rather than giving up, it strengthened her determination to pursue music and prove that voice wrong.
Today, Mia channels that experience into songwriting that speaks about resilience, determination, and finding your place in the
world. She writes for anyone who has ever felt like they weren’t enough.
